El perro de monte de esta fotografía vive en los bosques y sabanas de Centro y Suramérica. Es una especie rara cuyo número está en peligro de extinción como resultado de la destrucción de su hábitat natural. Él tiene patas cortas y pelaje largo. El perro de monte alcanza una altura de 30 cm. en el hombro y pesa unos 5-7 kilogramos. Poco se sabe de los hábitos de este animal nocturno. Se cree que el perro de monte caza en manadas, alimentándose principalmente de roedores.

Cultural Note: Mountain Dog

The bush dog in this photograph lives in the forests and savannas of Central and South America. It is a rare species whose numbers are declining as a result of the destruction of its natural habitat. With short legs and long hair, the bush dog reaches a height of 30 cm (12 inches) at the shoulder and weighs about 5-7 kg (11-15 pounds). Little is known of the habits of this nocturnal animal. It is believed that the bush dog hunts in packs, feeding primarily on rodents.
