Nota cultural: Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu se encuentra en la cordillera de los Andes del sur del Perú. Machu Picchu es una de las ruinas arqueológicas más importantes de la región del Cuzco, conocida como el Valle Sagrado de los Incas. Fue una fortaleza y un adoratorio de los Incas; no fue conocida por los conquistadores españoles. Hiram Bingham, de la Universidad de Yale, exploró las ruinas de Machu Picchu en 1911. La ciudadela abarca terrazas agrícolas, muchas casas de piedra y varios templos ceremoniales hechos con piedra. Machu Picchu es una de las maravillas más grandes del mundo.

Cultural Note: Machu Picchu

Located in the Andes mountains of south-central Peru, Machu Picchu is one of the most important archeological ruins of the region near Cuzco known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Ancient fortress of the Incas, Machu Picchu went undiscovered by the Spaniards, and thus the "lost city" was discovered nearly intact in 1911 by Hiram Bingham of Yale University. The site includes hundreds of agricultural terraces, many stone houses, and several ceremonial temples, also constructed of stone. Machu Picchu is truly a marvel.
