Nota cultural: El perezoso

Los perezosos son mamíferos que habitan en los árboles, muy relacionados con el armadillo y el oso hormiguero. El perezoso puede ser encontrado en el trópico de Centro y Suramérica, agarrándose a los troncos de los árboles, colgándose boca abajo de las ramas de los árboles, o moviéndose lentamente a través de los árboles, alimentándose de la vegetación. El perezoso rara vez se encuentra en el suelo, donde no puede caminar, sino que debe arrastrarse por el suelo, siendo fácil presa del jaguar, fiero depredador. Animal nocturno y solitario, el perezoso es un buen nadador. Los perezosos se camuflan realmente bien, ya que entre su pelaje marrón crecen algas verdes, siendo muy difícil verlos en el entorno arbóreo.

Cultural Note: Sloth

Sloths are tree-dwelling mammals, closely related to the armadillo and the anteater. The sloth can be found in tropical South and Central America, clinging to tree trunks, hanging upside down from tree branches, or moving slowly through the trees, feeding on vegetation. The sloth is seldom found on the ground, where it cannot walk but rather must drag itself along the ground, making easy prey for the fierce predator, the jaguar. A nocturnal and solitary animal, the sloth is a good swimmer. Sloths are particularly well camouflaged, as green algae grows among the brown hair, making them difficult to see in their arboreal environment.
